Jess shares her birth story to help future Mums here in the North-West looking for advice...
Where did you deliver your baby?
Were you full term?
One day early.
How was your pregnancy?
Really nice experience and watching my bump grow.
Did you have a birth plan in place?
Yes. And I got a playlist ready for whilst I was in labour
Where/how did you access midwife support during your pregnancy?
I used the local midwives at Widnes Walk In Centre who were great.
Did you have any extra scans?
We got an early scan at 6 weeks because I just couldn’t believe I was pregnant and then near the end they gave me an extra scan as baby was measuring too big but turned out to be a 5 lb 15 oz baby.
Did you have contractions?
Yes, I had tightenings at the start from Wednesday and when I went into active labour I then started having contractions. So strange, started like mild period cramps but got worse/easier if that makes sense due to pain relief.
Did your waters break?
No, I went to the delivery suite to have my waters broken.
If you delivered at hospital or a maternity unit, how did you get there?
I was in the hospital for 5 days as I went to get induced due to reduced movement.
How was your labour?
A slow journey that got more intense as time went on as I was in labour for 12 hours.
How did you feel when your baby arrived?
Emotional and overwhelmed as we didn’t know the gender.
What are your top tips for a hospital bag or home birth?
Sports drinks, food and playlist (the delivery room can be longgggg).
What is the best gadget you've used for your newborn?
The Rockit! For the pram.
What advice do you have for mums-to-be and new parents?
Don’t always listen to other people’s advice, you do you as you know your baby best!
